Hoarding simply put is when the amount of acquired clutter prohibits functionality in the home. There are five levels of hoarding ranging from one to five, five being the most severe. Level five hoarding cases do not happen overnight. Levels 2 and 3 can quickly escalate to a level 5 if proper methods are not utilized to prevent it. Hoarding effects not only the individual with the disorder but also their loved ones. The most common consequence of hoarding is the financial burden it can have. other effects are strained relationships and possible loss of housing due to eviction.
